Why Soay?
Meat: Soay meat is especially yummy in spaghetti sauce!
Wool: Soay wool can be challenging to spin, because of its short staple length. However, its beautiful colors and luxurious softness make it worth it! Soay shed their wool in the spring, so there is no need to sheer them. The wool can be harvested by a process called "rooing" (combing the wool off the sheep), or by pulling it off the fences when they rub it off.
Lawn: Soay are the ultimate grass-powered lawn mowers!
Brush: Soays' favorite foods include those pesky blackberry bushes and the prickly trimmings from our rose bushes!
Maintenance: So far, they have been quite trouble-free! They haven't gotten sick, they haven't pushed down or climbed over any fences, and some of them come when they're called (at least, if they think you've got food).

Rainbow Apple's Soay Sheep
We raise our Soay for personal use. We are not in this to make money, and we do not run our farm as a business. The information provided on this website is for information only.

We may sometimes have sheep available for sale or for trade, especially at lambing time. If we are actively looking to sell a sheep, then it will be posted in the For Sale section. However, if you are particularly interested in any of our sheep, feel free to contact us and perhaps we can work something out. If you're wondering about any of our sheep's pedigrees, check out the Open Flockbook Project, and you can search for the sheep by name.
