We are proud to welcome ewe lamb Rainbow Apple Cameo and ram lamb Rainbow Apple Pippin to our flock! They arrived yesterday morning at approximately 10:30 AM. I first glimpsed them while I was on my way to a dentist appointment at 10:45 AM, at which time Piper was busily licking them off. The above picture was taken at about 1:00 PM yesterday.
Unfortunately, it rained all day yesterday, and Piper stubbornly refused to move into the shed with her lambs. We put the lambs in, and she came in and led them back out into the mud within twenty minutes; we tried again, thinking this time we'd shut them all in together, and she just stood outside the shed bleating at them. We tried leaving her alone, chasing her, and attempting to catch her to shut her into the shed with the babies, but she's much faster than we are and we had no success. The lambs, for their part, curled up under the heat lamp and took a nap. They were shivering when we first brought them in, so I am glad they had a chance to warm up. After an hour or so, however, we had to pick them up and take them back out to Piper in the mud and the rain, as we didn't want to risk her not recognizing them if they were separated too long. Thankfully, they made it through the night and are still doing well this afternoon. I'm glad the sun came out so they'd have a chance to warm up today!! It's supposed to be cold and dreary again tomorrow, but I don't feel as bad about it now that they're just a little older.
