Okay, so I've been thinking a lot about mixing up genetics. Our farm here is pretty small, so unless we either eat all the offspring we produce every year (including ewes), or do some buying and selling each year, we're looking at a genetic bottleneck.
I think this year I would like to sell Piper to another farm. She is three years old, she's an attentive mother, and has twinned two years in a row. She is also a proven tan carrier. I think she would make a great addition to anybody's flock. She would be available as soon as her twin lambs are weaned. She is triple-registered with SOA, MNSBAR, and the OFP; I will provide her paperwork but the buyer will have to submit them to the registries if desired. I think $250 is probably fair, but her price is negotiable, and I would also consider trading her for another ewe.
Although I'm not anxious to do so, I would also consider selling or trading out my ram Cobra and/or my ewe lamb Cameo if anybody is interested. Neither of these sheep is registered with SOA, but they are (or will be) registered with the OFP and I intend to apply for registration with MNSBAR as well. I would take $75 for Cobra and $150 for Cameo, or an appropriate trade. Cameo will be available when she is weaned, unless I change my mind (for example, if I sell her mamma, Piper). I would be willing to trade her for another ewe (preferably a lamb) or a pair of yearling wethers for meat.
Cobra is *just* tame enough, for a ram, but not too tame. He's also used to the presence of dogs (on the other side of the fence). I would also consider selling Cobra and Allard as a pair to make room for a different set of genetics, especially if I end up not selling Cameo. It's too early to tell how skiddish or tame Cameo will be, but I will work on trying to make her comfortable around people.
We have just completed the paperwork for the Voluntary Scrapie program, so if your farm is already in that program, that's something you would need to know before buying any of our sheep.
