Rainbow Apple Farm

Rainbow Apple Nano (for a pedigree, click here): Ram lamb born 04/18/2008. Ready to wean about June. If you're breeding for small size, this would be a great ram for you. He is approximately 1/2 British and 1/2 American Soay. Exact statistics are not available because some of his grandparents have incomplete breeding records, but he comes pretty close to 50/50. He is the son of our most friendly ewe, Brenda, who is herself a petite Soay sheep.
We are asking $125 for Nano.

We approximated Nano's birth-weight at under 2.5 lbs, and he has remained tiny, even for a Soay. Here he is pictured next to IIe (above), the next-youngest lamb on our farm. IIe is only 12 days older than Nano.
In this next picture, we have Lisa, a ewe lamb (sold), Newton, a ram lamb (not for sale), Nano, and Mac, a ram lamb (sold). Mac is one month older than Nano, and the other lambs are about 3 weeks older. But Nano is just now about the size the other lambs were at birth!

Nano is a healthy, active little ram lamb. He nurses vigorously and is eating grass. Even though he was born tiny, he was well-mothered and needed no shepherd intervention at birth or afterward. He is his mother's first lamb, too! We will consider a trade for a lamb or yearling wether of reasonable meat size. It doesn't even have to be a Soay! We'd take a Katahdin or just about any meat lamb in trade, as long as it's wethered. Make us an offer! Nano will be ready for weaning in June.
Our 2008 Lambs
We have six healthy lambs to be proud of this year! We had one single ewe lamb that was born too weak to suckle and did not survive, but all of the others are healthy and vibrant!

We have one ewe, Sootie, who did not have a lamb this year. She doesn't appear to be pregnant. I'm not sure what happened... maybe she'll surprise us with a lamb sometime this summer. For pedigrees on all our lambs, visit the Open Flockbook and do a "slow search" on the word "Rainbow."
